- A mental and behavioral state of reduced comprehension, coherence, capacity to reason
- Patient usually subdued, disinclined to speak, physically inactive
- Delirium: a state of confusion accompanied by agitation, hallucinations, tremor, illusions (misperceptions of environmental sight, sound, or touch)
- Coma: condition of unresponsiveness; a deep sleep-like state from which the patient cannot be aroused
