Definition

  • Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is an intensely pruritic, papulovesicular immunologically mediated skin disease.
  • It occurs on extensor skin surfaces.
  • Almost all patients with DH have an associated, usually subclinical, gluten-sensitive enteropathy (celiac disease).
  • Gluten ingestion exacerbates DH and is a main target of therapy.
