  • Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP)
    • Pneumonia that develops > 48 hours after hospital admission and is not incubating at admission
  • Ventilator-acquired pneumonia (VAP)
    • A subset of HAP
    • Pneumonia that develops after > 48 hours of mechanical ventilation and not incubating at the time of intubation
