Definition
- Dementia is an acquired deterioration in cognitive abilities impairing activities of daily living.
- Impaired cognitive abilities can include deficits in memory (most commonly), language, visuospatial ability, calculation, judgment, and problem solving.
- If activities of daily living are not impaired but deficits exist, the condition is referred to as mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
