Definition

  • A chronic systemic mycosis
    • Endemic to Central and South America and to Mexico
    • Caused by the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis
  • Characterized by oropharyngeal ulcers, draining enlarged lymph nodes, skin lesions, weight loss, and patchy infiltrates on chest radiography
  • Formerly called South American blastomycosis
